When a mutated strain dies, it regresses to its previous form after 1 second.

Broodspawn
To sustain the offensive.
A select few Zerg Sires can create and preserve Broodspawn to reinforce the front lines.

Infestation
Turning them on themselves.
A select few Zerg strains can infest hostiles on death.
Infested combatants move 25% slower, have 50% sight range, boast +1 armor, and regenerate life. Infested structures spread cagra.
